I don't really do the new year's resolution thing. Never really have. But for some reason when January 1st rolls around each year, it feels like a good starting point for something new. I guess it's just how my brain works. So this January first I will start my detoxing of the "white stuff". No, not cocaine...just sugar. :)
I go through seasons where I eat very little sugar or a lot of sugar. Ever since moving back to the states I've been eating WAY too much sugar. My candida loves it but the rest of me totally doesn't. And since an estimated 80-90% of Americans have candida then I'm sure your candida loves it too. :)
Anyway, I will be completely going off the "white stuff" which means no packaged/processed foods either. No chips, no pastuerized juices, no stevia...seeing as it's white and all. :)
Fruits in moderation, raw honey, kombucha, coconut oil...things like that will be my sweet friends. The last time I went 100% off sugar I was scary to my family for a few weeks until I got over the difficult hump. My poor family. :)
Anyone else doing anything health related this January 1st??
Joy, this is for you! :)

ooh, I just saw that you have this other blog, and I LOVE what you have going on here. Now I'll have to read this one too!
Also, I'd love it if you'd send me your how to for the Market bags!
ps...where in hood river do you find your cute fabrics? i love some of the great shops around portland...Vancouver pretty much has NOTHING cool, except one overpriced shop with cute amy butler fabrics.
oops, just realized that I'm logged in as my hubby, it's me Eryn Kesler (5byfaith.blogspot.com)
Hey Eryn, I either go to the Dalles (The Cotton Shop) for fabric, order from Fabricworm on Etsy, or order from Quilthome.com. I'll email you the market bag instructions. :)
Hey there! We're going off the white stuff as well. Matt and I are doing the Makers Diet for 40 days to jumpstart and then just plan on staying off sugar and processed foods...which is really how we've been eating for the last year or two...PRE Holidays, of course! :) We actually asked a bunch of friends if they wanted to do it with us so we could have community meals and keep each other accountable. It's so stinking hard to go to parties where everyone's eating cake and then expect yourself to abstain! Or maybe that's just me! :) Anyway, I think we do have a few people joining us! We're calling it a cleansing diet and I can't wait to give my candida a break! :) Every time I eat a sweet, Matt says, "oh, Candida" cuz he knows I always feel sick later! :)
too much of any good thing can set the body out of balance... aye, I relate in the sugar cravings... I got off the white stuff and processed foods years ago; but I still go nuts with cravings for sweets which I am trying to get a handle on; I exhibit very little self control... which when I lived alone was fine because I was able to create a controlled environment; but then I moved in with my boyfriend who is not organic but has become so on account of me, but he still exposes me to my "weakness" yummy flaked pastries of all manors (this is after all a french province) oh the bakeries ! on every street corner ! (montreal) ...
so yes... my long winded response... I hear ya....
maple syrup or dates can be a good sweetening aid that is good for you in addition to honey....
Good luck!
Happy holidays!!

Hello Blog Shmog! Coconut oil will certainly be a sweet friend, especially during a detox program.
I did a coconut oil detox last year wherein all I ate for 3 days were 12 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil (VCO), unsweetened pure lemon juice and pure water DAILY.
The result was a leaner, fitter, happier me. It was a very healthy experience. :-)
Cheers,

I am on a new healthy kick too! BUT mine is because while we were in W.A. Yannick gave me the full run down of muscle tests and figured out lots of fun stuff about my body! (note my sarcasm) :) Malak and I both have major Candida problems. (along with a whole slew of other things) So I have been doing the crazy strict Candida detox/diet for the last 3 weeks and feel SO GOOD!! I have no more headaches, no more feeling barfy, So much more energy, my skin is the best it's ever been, and to top it off, I've lost 13 lbs! Sweeeet. :) Needless to say I am so excited about it all and how good I feel, I just might continue this forever. :)
Tara, Yannick did that to me in Switzerland too. I was a mess. :)
So there are a ton of different candida elimination diets and I would love to know what you've eliminated and what supplements you are taking. I've started slowly as I was so bad I was afraid of really bad "die off" symptoms. Let me know!
